Snow Canyon State Park is located in southern Utah about 11 miles northwest from the town of St. George. The park is open year round and has a day use fee of $5 and a camping fee of $20. The campground is tucked into a nice little red rock cove, has tent and trailer spots, hot showers and flush toilets. Although there are plenty of hiking trails with in the State Park I would not recommend bringing your dog. There are only 2 areas where dogs are permitted (on leash) with in the canyon, The West Canyon Road (gravel) and the Whiptail Trail (paved).
There are some fun hikes that even kids enjoy doing. You can find a list here.
The campground does have some spots that provide shade.
It has been 20 years since the Wasatch Canyons master plan has been updated. This plan guides land‐use policy for City Creek, Emigration, Red Butte, Parleys, Millcreek, Big Cottonwood, and Little Cottonwood Canyons. Three workshops are scheduled for this week. Check out the workshop schedule and make it a priority to attend at least one.
As water resources become more and more scarce, protection of water quality becomes more and more important. But it seems that in Salt Lake County dogs “off leash” are the easiest target to restrict. Is this restriction really scientifically the most important? What about wildlife, septic systems, ski resorts, fertilizers, etc. Do dogs really impact waterways to a level where they should be banned everywhere? Since we treat all water before it is sent to the public for use, what is the real purpose of banning dogs from watershed areas? How are recreational needs for the “off leash” user group balanced against the needs of all the other user groups?- Millcreek F.I.D.O.S.
Please take the time to attend one of these workshops and voice your opinion on behalf of your canine companion. After all, dogs are only permitted in one canyon half of the time. Are you willing to possibly lose this too?
Cloudveil’s Skid Crib Video Contest is over. Check out the winner of $2,400 worth of gear. Or Click Here to view the other contestants.
The votes have been tallied, and Teton Teepee took top honors as the skiddest of cribs. Thanks for the entries, and for voting, and stay tuned, maybe we’ll run this thing again next year. Better than slope-slide, this skid crib is mid-slope in Jackson Hole. As a true skid, the Village is both my playground and my house. From stashing gear, to poaching showers and scoring meals, I am truly living the dream…..Hopefully, I won’t die of frostbite before I wake up.

THIS needs to be said. THIS is why we need to spay and neuter our pets. And your family’s pets. And your friends’ pets. And your neighbor’s pets. THIS IS WHY. PLEASE share this video.
Prices like these on Patagonia outerwear are incredible. Great quality that will practically last forever but sizes and colors will not so get on over to Patagonia.com.
Contrary to popular belief, a slacker is not some one who shirks his work or responsibility but one who has slack. That said, I would like to invite you all to slack or hang out if you will which, is exactly what I have been up to these days (or months). We have been enjoying the beautiful winter up here in the mountains of Utah. Plenty of blue bird days in between our storm cycles. Our winter has been filled with snowboarding, cross country skiing, sledding, running and plain old hanging out. We took some time this winter to teach our oldest son how to ski. He has been cross country skiing since well, he could walk but we wanted to dial in his down hill skills. We enrolled him in a group of lessons for local kids at The Canyons Ski Resort. Which by the way, he loved and we loved loving that he loved it. My husband and I were able to get out snowboarding together this year instead of the tag team child care thing we usually pull. It was great having my snowboarding partner back, I missed him. Our youngest had a great winter also playing in the snow and making snowmen. He slightly resembled Randy from A Christmas Story at times but still got around well. Luckily, winter is not quite over yet. We are beginning to plan a yurt trip in the Uinta Mountains. We will ski out to the yurt with all our gear and spend the night. Now, go out and slack, your life will appreciate it.
