COTTONWOOD CAMP

This is a boat-in campsite along the Green River, located about 3 miles below the Little hole Boat Site. At 6000', this area is typical of a high desert community that offers natural shade. Each site is equipped with apinic table, fire ring, tent pads, benches, and screening for a portabletoilet. Services in the area include: Flaming Gorge Recreation Services 435-885-3191 -- raft rental, guidedfishing, convenience store, shuttle service, tackle, gas, auto repair, showers, and pay telephones. Green River Outfitter 435-885-3338 -- guided fishing, convenience store, tackle, gas, and shuttle service.

COTTONWOOD CAMP Directions

From Vernal UT, take US Highway 191 north 45 miles. Cross the FlamingGorge Dam and turn right on road leading to upper launch site at SpillwayBoat Ramp. A second launch is 7 miles down the river at Little Hole BoatRamp. Cross the dam and continue to the town of Dutch John. Turn rightoffHighway 191 and go east on Forest Road 075 about 6 miles. The site is10.5miles below Spillway and 3.3 miles below Little Hole. From Rock Springs,WY, take US Highway 191 south 63 miles. Just before crossing the dam,turnleft on the road to Spillway. A second launch site is down the river atLittle Hole. At the town of Dutch John, turn left off Highway 191 and goeast on Forest Road 075 about 6 miles. The site is 10.5 miles belowSpillway, and 3.3 miles below Little Hole.

Important Information: Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance. This is a boat-incamp. It is accessible only by water. Special regulations apply.Requirements to launch: Boater must carry a bail bucket, throw line, extraoar, and must wear a life jacket while on the water. The Forest Servicerequires the use of portable toilet systems for all campers. These toiletsmust be sealable, flushable, and reusable. Bag-lined systems are notallowed. This campground is located in the Flaming Gorge NationalRecreation Area (FGNRA). The FGNRA is participating in the Recreation FeeDemonstration Program, it states each vehicle must display a RecreationFee Pass outside of the campground if using other recreational facilities(e.g. boat ramps, picnic areas, and day-use areas). A daily pass is $2; a16-day pass is $5; and an annual is $20. Passes can be purchased from theForest Service, campground managers, and local businesses. The holder of aGolden Passport will not be required to purchase a recreation fee pass ifdisplayed on the dash of the vehicle.
