The Ruth Lake trail head is located about 30 miles up the Mirror Lake Highway from Kamas. This is a short hike (maybe a mile or so) with some spectacular views which make it perfect for families or those looking for an easy backpacking trip. There are several ponds along the way and up above Ruth lake also. This is a popular area for climbers so the parking area may seem crowded but chances are you will not see too many people even on the weekend. Climbers head up the trail via Ruth Lake and then branch off. As always there are some bugs in the mountains this time of year so bring some bug spray and don’t forget your camera.
